Go Crenshaw Publications
Go Crenshaw Publications is an independent, Black-founded publishing imprint of Community Intelligence, LLC, established by Dr. Randal Henry and rooted in the Crenshaw District of South Los Angeles. Its books and public-history projects document and interpret the people, places, institutions, achievements, and cultural landscapes that have shaped Black Los Angeles and the wider region.
The company's work brings together historical research, public scholarship, and cultural education. Drawing on documentary evidence, historical scholarship, and knowledge of local communities, GCP makes carefully researched history accessible to general readers, students, educators, libraries, museums, community organizations, residents, and visitors. Its approach recognizes Black Angelenos as historical actors whose ideas, institutions, achievements, and collective actions have helped shape Los Angeles, California, and the nation.
GCP's publishing program takes several complementary forms. The Go Series connects history, cultural geography, and place-based exploration through historic-cultural guidebooks. The forthcoming Outstanding Series documents the lives and achievements of Black women, Black men, and Black Olympic champions connected to Los Angeles. Other publications, including Born in South Los Angeles, Black Firsts in Los Angeles, California, and C is for Capoeira, examine Black history and African diasporic culture through accessible formats. Malcolm, Martin, and Black Los Angeles extends this work through historical narrative, documentary research, and comparative chronology.
As an independent publisher, GCP establishes its own research and editorial priorities while drawing upon archival collections, historical scholarship, community records, and the contributions of historians, researchers, and cultural institutions. Its commitment is to produce accurate, engaging, and useful publications that preserve historical knowledge, encourage inquiry, and deepen public understanding across generations.
